The fight continues! — COVID-19 updates, victories, and more
WIN: TEA Waiver
Monday night the SAISD Board of Trustees voted to apply to TEA for a waiver to allow for up to eight weeks of virtual instruction to start the new school year.
We’re glad that our district leaders have come to see what we’ve known throughout the Summer: that no student should be returning to school under the crisis conditions we face in San Antonio at this time.
WIN: Leave Balances
During the Monday night SAISD Board meeting, Superintendent Pedro Martinez guaranteed that employees won’t be charged leave if people have to quarantine due to exposure to COVID-19.
If you’ve already had to quarantine and your leave has been charged, please contact Angie Perez with Employee Benefits at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Get involved: Attend our general membership meeting!
We will have a general membership meeting Wednesday, September 2 at 5:00pm to discuss continuing issues with COVID-19 and reporting to campuses.
Protocol for being notified of COVID cases on your campus:
There has been uncertainty around the notification protocol for potential COVID-19 exposure. This is the protocol as set by Metro Health: Being within six (6) feet of a sick person with the virus for at least 15 minutes without the use of a face covering. You will only be notified if you meet the criteria for exposure based on Metro Health’s protocol. This means that someone may test positive on your campus or in your department, but you may not be informed.
If you find out about a positive case of the coronavirus at your worksite, please email email@example.com.
Supporting our DACAmented members:
Are you DACAmented? AFT continues to fight against the Trump administration’s attack on our DACAmented community. You can help by filling out this survey.
Your information will be kept confidential. If you have any questions about this survey, you can contact Jessica Rutter in AFT Legal, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ask your coworkers to join our union!
With the start of the new school year, there will be new workers joining SAISD. We highly encourage members to reach out to these folks, get to know them, and ask them to join our union. It is vital that they join our fight for safe schools!
