Two Voucher Bills, Bad Evaluation Bill Still Lurking on Senate Calendar

San Antonio AllianceUncategorized

Two voucher bills and a bad bill on teacher evaluation remain poised for action on the Senate Calendar for Thursday, April 25. The voucher bills are SB 115 by Sen. Tommy Williams (R-The Woodlands) and SB 1298 by Sen. Glenn Hegar (R-Katy); the evaluation bill, giving the commissioner of education broad authority to make standardized tests the keystone of teacher evaluation, is SB 1403 by Sen. Patrick (R-Houston). You can send an anti-voucher letter and a letter opposing SB 1403 from the Texas AFT Web site; then for good measure you can call your senator’s office to reinforce the message. If we keep the letters and calls flowing into Senate offices, these bills can be blocked from coming up on the Senate floor.
