All 15 Bexar County independent school districts have a common message: Good things are happening at their schools, and for the first time in their history, they are launching a public relations campaign to spread that information.
School officials said Thursday the Go Public campaign will highlight positive developments, promote public awareness about academic programs, underscore the challenges that traditional public schools face and dispel myths that their schools are failing kids. It will be funded by a combination of school district money and contributions from local businesses.
“It’s become more and more fashionable and more and more in vogue to bash public education, and I think it’s time for us to get our story out,” said San Antonio Independent School District Superintendent Sylvester Perez, joining other local school officials to brief the San Antonio Express-News Editorial Board on the campaign.
