On Monday September 12, 2011, Alliance President, Shelley Potter, spoke to the SAISD School Board regarding the numerous concerns SAISD Pre-K and Head Start teachers and instructional assistants are having.
The main concerns regarding the Pre-K and Head Start programs are curriculum changes, required home visits, mileage reimbursement, and instructional assistant not receiving their required two 15-minute breaks during the workday.
Potter asked the Board that the first round of home visits that the district is requiring be done by September be waved until the Alliance has time to speak with Administration. She asked that there be clear communication with all teachers regarding mileage reimbursement and clear communication with assistants that they are entitled to two 15-minute breaks throughout the day. Lastly, Potter asked that the Board look into the curriculum issue and why the curriculum that the Board approved last spring is not the curriculum being utilized.
The Alliance will hold a meeting for all Pre-K and Head Start teachers and instructional assistants Tuesday September 13, 2011 at 4:30pm, to further discuss these issues. The meeting will take place at the Alliance Office at 120 Adams Street.
