Alliance meeting with Head Custodians on April 15th
A company that does outsourcing of school district custodial services, GCA Services Group, began approaching Board members and district administrators about three years ago. They also spoke at a Board meeting in October of this school year. Neither the Board nor the administration have shown an interest in moving in the direction of privatizing (outsourcing) SAISD custodial services. For the district to even consider privatizing (outsourcing) custodial services, the district would have to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) for such services, which has not happened and which we would oppose. Alliance leaders are staying on top of this situation.
This situation is an excellent example of why it is important to have an active organization representing employees. Alliance leaders attend every school board meeting so that we know what is being discussed there. It is also a great example of why an organization needs to be involved in actively working to elect good school board members. The Board is the decision making body that would choose to privatize (outsource) or not.
The Alliance is holding an informational meeting for Head Custodians on Tues., April 15th from 4:00-5:30 PM at the Alliance Office, 120 Adams St.
