Custodial Grievance Moves Forward"We can’t ask for action until we ourselves take action!” remarked James Aguilar, Edison High School Head Custodian. James was one of the Custodians Task Force attendees at last weeks meeting; he represents almost 300 custodians that have signed on to the grievance. Alliances’ Vice-President, Rachel Martinez called the meeting to strategize on how to get the custodians and their supporters to attend the final hearing for the Custodians Group Grievance.
The Grievance appeal has been sent to Dr. Julian Trevino, President
of the School Board and we are waiting the date for the public hearing
to be announced. You will be notified as soon as
that announcement is made. |
The
Task Force has been working for months through the summer
visiting worksites. They have been talking to custodians about the
manpower shortage and other issues that have overwhelmed them these
past few years. They also stressed the importance of taking action.
Almost 300 custodians, more than half of the workforce took action
by signing their names to the grievance. Now, the time has come to
call for everyone’s action, to come together and show their
strength in numbers. “The school board will be more likely to
take action when they see the board room full of custodians and their
supporters,” stated JB Richeson, Vice-President and one of the
grievance’s representative.
