Did you know that the Alliance gives Know Your Rights presentations? If you and your colleagues are interested in knowing more about SAISD policies and procedures and state and federal laws, then request this presentation.
Here are some of policies and state laws discussed:
- Planning & Prep Time DL (Legal)/Education Code 21.404: Each classroom teacher is entitled to at least 450 minutes within each two-week period for instructional preparation including parent-teacher conference, evaluating students’ homework, and planning. A planning and preparation period may not be less than 45 minutes within the instructional day. During that time, a teacher may not be required to participate in any other activity.
- Interruptions BC (Legal)/Education Code 25.083: The Board shall limit interruptions of classes during the school day for nonacademic activities such as announcements and sales promotions. Announcements shall be made no more than once during the school day, except for emergency announcements.
- Employee Work Schedule/Excessive Meetings DK (Local): A principal may require teachers to be on duty more than 7.5 hours for in-service training and/or staff meetings with at least five working days notice to the teachers, unless urgent circumstances arise that demand immediate attention. A principal may require teachers to be on duty more than 7.5 hours a day, as long as the additional time does not exceed a total of 90 minutes in a period of ten work days.
