Group pushes for special statewide school district to take over low-performing campuses

Texans for Education Reform, a group which morphed out of Texans for Lawsuit Reform, recently urged the House Public Education Committee to take up legislation that would establish the Texas Achievement School District to operate schools that have been rated “low-performing” for two consecutive years.  Texans for Education Reform are supportive of corporate charter schools, including “virtual” charter schools and are aligned with other groups who are working to take control of neighborhood public schools out of the hands of parents and the community and give them over to corporations.  No doubt, if they were to succeed with legislation to establish a Texas Achievement School District, the next step would be to use charter management corporations to run that district.
