The Alliance—in collaboration with the SAISD, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the Department of Labor, and OSHA—spent four days this past week training almost 500 SAISD employees in CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid, and the use of the AED (Automated External Defibrillator). Participants received certifiable training and will now be prepared to handle any emergencies that may arise.

A change in law and rules at the Texas Teacher Retirement System means that you had better make sure you receive and review your annual statement of TRS-covered service. The new law and rules require that any correction needed must be brought to the attention of TRS within five years, and failure to receive the annual statement does not extend that deadline.
SAISD School Board rescinds decision to keep 3rd-year teachers on probationary contracts for a 4th year! On Monday July 18th, the SAISD School Board rescinded their decision to keep all third-year probationary teachers on probation for a fourth year. Those teachers will now be placed on the continuing contracts they should have received in the first place.
On June 20, 2011, the SAISD Administration recommended and the SAISD Board of Trustees approved the renewal of the district health insurance program with no premium increase to employees on any of the district health insurance plans (Coverage 1st 2000, Coverage 1st 1000, POS 300, or HMO).
