Alliance Donates Books to SAISD 2nd Graders

San Antonio AllianceUncategorized

The San Antonio Alliance of Teachers & Support Personnel is at it again, bringing books into the hands of SAISD students. We have selected three schools in SAISD to donate books to. All 2nd graders at Forbes ES, Green ES, and Rodriguez ES received a hardcover copy of “Martin’s Big Words” by Doreen Rappaport.

“Martin’s Big Words” is a picture-book biography that teaches about Dr. Martin Luther King.  The book biography is an excellent and accessible introduction for young readers to learn about one of the world’s most influential leaders, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Rappaport weaves the immortal words of Dr. King into a captivating narrative to tell the story of his life. With stunning art by acclaimed illustrator Bryan Collier, Martin’s Big Words

is an unforgettable portrait of a man whose dream changed America—and the world—forever.

On January 14th, 15th, and 20th, Alliance President, Shelley Potter, visited the three schools and read excerpts from the book to the 2nd grade students. Potter then distributed copies of the book to each 2nd grade student at Forbes, Green, and Rodriguez. The Alliance would like to especially thank the national AFL-CIO for providing the funding specifically to provide books to students around the celebration of the life of Dr. King.
