As we look toward the start of a new year in January, we must be ALL IN for our kids and for public education. Let’s use our feet, our hands, and our voices to stand up for our students and for our schools. (More on that in a minute!)
We cannot let the government take public schools away from our neighborhoods. Starvation of our public schools via lack of funding and the dismantling of public schools via vouchers and for-profit charters are real threats, both at the state and national level. The Texas Legislature convenes on January 10, and we know that there are many powerful state leaders who will once again target public schools and the children we serve. Additionally, we know that the President-elect intends to appoint as Secretary of Education an anti-public education activist who has spent two decades attempting to dismantle, destabilize, and de-fund the American vision of public education.
