Retiring Teachers: Donate Used Materials

It’s that time of the year again! Jump Start, an Alliance-sponsored program that benefits new teachers, takes place during SAISD's New Teacher Orientation week. The program allows new teachers to shop for free teaching materials and supplies. To make this event successful, the Alliance asks that retiring teachers donate slightly used or even new teaching supplies and materials that they no longer need. Retiring teachers can give new teachers a great start to their SAISD careers!

To donate, please bring items to the Alliance office at 120 Adams Street. For more information, please contact Sylvia Lovelace at 225-7174 or by email at gosylver1@yahoo.com and she will arrange to have them picked up.

Alliance Launches Discipline Campaign

For teachers, discipline was the top issue on the Consultation survey this 2009-10 school year. On a survey the Alliance conducted from the "Grow Our Schools Grant", parents said safety was one of the main reasons they chose to send their child to an out-of-district school. By not using appropriate consequences with students who choose to engage in inappropriate behavior, we may be hampering our ability to attract and retain students and teachers.

To address this issue, the Alliance has launched a discipline campaign called, "Respect, Responsibility, Relationships = RESULTS." The Alliance has called on School Board members and administration to join us and work together to ensure a safe and orderly environment conducive to learning in every SAISD school. Read More

Out of 457 respondents so far, 34% disagreed and 53% strongly disagreed. 87% of total respondents say that the process is not effective. The Alliance believes that there are not enough interventions available to provide help for all of our struggling students. Read More
