Through Consultation, the Alliance has worked with the District to revise the discipline referral form. The revised discipline referral form will be presented to teachers by their principals no later than October 25 and will be effective November 1. The revised form states that the administrator must return the form to the teacher with a written description of the action taken within 5 days. The new form also provides a section where the teacher may specify previous action taken if applicable. The previous form made it appear as though the teacher had to take other action before a discipline referral could be submitted. According to the SAISD Student Code of Conduct, “When a teacher believes that a student has committed a violation of this Student Code of Conduct, the teacher is required by Texas law to submit a written description of the student's actions to the principal/administrator.”
The Alliance was the only organization to work with the District through Consultation to revise the discipline referral form.
